For chip capacitors with high content silver and palladium, it is better to independently use acid process to refine silver palladium, while for the gold-filled circuit board and plug-in components, it’s better to adopt cyanide-free environmental gold stripping agent for fast plating stripping.
Present paper reports an application oriented approach to recover precious metals such as silver (Ag) and palladium (Pd) from multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) of waste printed circuit boards (PCBs). These capacitors are being widely used in modern electronic gadgets to provide advance features as well as to enhance their performance.
The residue from the silver-cells, together with crude gold bullion, is treated in cells having a chloride electrolyte. These produce fine gold and leave a residue containing silver chloride. The latter is reduced to the metallic state with zinc and is then treated in the silver-cells.
At this point most of the capacitors will disintegrate and the solution will turn to a purple suspension, which is the reaction between the Tin chloride, Nickel and other compounds. Siphon the purple liquid to the waste solution container and test it for precious metals presence.
Bullion containing silver is treated in cells charged with a nitric electrolyte. These cells produce fine silver and leave a residue rich in gold. The residue from the silver-cells, together with crude gold bullion, is treated in cells having a chloride electrolyte. These produce fine gold and leave a residue containing silver chloride.
The silver in the anodes forms at the anodes insoluble silver chloride, a part of which, in the first set of cells, is removed at intervals by taking out the anodes and brushing and jarring off the silver chloride into an earthenware jar. Most of the silver chloride, however, drops to the bottom of the cells.
How is Silver Refined?
The refining process removes impurities from the silver, including other metals, until the silver purity reaches its target millesimal fineness. While we have covered silver as it relates to magnetism, did you know that the configuration of its electrons reflects all electromagnetic radiation of wavelengths shorter than 3000 angstroms?

old Fe/Ag tantalum capacitors
In the "skinny" part of the capacitor, there is underlaying thick silver foil, and in the "wider" part there is tantalum disc. It is pretty labor intensive to manually saw them one after one, and pull the silver+tantalum out. Not feasible on larger scale. I considered leaching out the iron with some acid, leaving the silver, but this would be quite acid-consuming. Piece weights …

This guy did exactly what was just mentioned and tested positive for silver in the disc capacitors.
