Unscrew the "lid" and set aside (don't throw it away). You should see some hardware (battery connectors, wires, LED, battery). Remove all the unneeded hardware - this would the battery, the wires for the battery (make sure you don't pull out the panel wiring), battery connector and LED. Now that you have the panels cleaned out, it's time to solder.

In view of the difficulty of manual recognition of rear-side soldering of monofacial solar cell in PV module manufacturing, a simplified method using EL quantitative technology is discussed in this paper.
Electroluminescence (EL) technology can detect many module defect types including weak soldering. But the grayscale change of EL image is not obvious enough caused by rear-side weak soldering (RWS) compared with front-side weak soldering, especially for monofacial solar cell. RWS is difficult for manual qualitative identification.
The types of weak soldering can be determined by the relative position of defective area, which is verified by experiment and simulation. Further simulation results suggest that the RWS can be visible from EL image like FWS when Rr rises to 120 μΩ.
Anisotropic conductive adhesives (ACA) (or anisotropic conductive adhesive films (ACF) have gained preference as a viable option for solder interconnects among all conductive adhesive materials . Hoffmann et al. and Geipel et al. have applied a conductive adhesive as interconnection in PV solar cells.

Defect Analysis of Faulty Regions in Photovoltaic Panels ...
Solar panels need direct exposure to sunlight and operates only in open environ-ment thus leading to exposure of extreme natural conditions like heat, cold, snow and fog [13]. Such exposures lead to damage of solar panels which proportionately stops the production of solar power or leads to poor output efficiency of the panel

Two-stage Soldering Defect Detection with Deep Learning
This thesis proposes an AOI method for soldering fault detection based on deep learning. There are two stages of the method. The rst stage is to detect all the soldering points from the PCB image, and the second stage is to classify them by their types of defect. According to our results on the most common defect type, the method is a feasible solution to detect soldering faults …
