The best seismic code or standard may be subjective and depending on the industry, options might be limited. There are many Telecommunication companies that use NEBS and many in the Utility Industry that use IEEE 693 for their seismic standards related to battery racks and cabinets.
Alpha's new line of indoor, two-post seismic racks are Zone 4 rated and independently certified for NEBS Level 3. They can hold up to 2500 pounds of equipment in a small footprint, making them ideal for use in telecommunication shelters, cabinets and Central Office applications.
The bolt-together design of the seismic racks is offered in a variety of heights and widths, allowing it to be used for a wide range of customer applications. And the bolt-together approach enables the rack to be flat packed, which significantly simplifies shipping and storage costs and logistics.
As per anti-shock and off-shore racks, anti-seismic racks are supplied complete with battery retention and bolt-down baseplates. In the case of anti-seismic racks, the specified site conditions are carefully evaulated along with the proposed battery to formulate a solution that exceeds the specified criteria.
Common standards in the battery room include those from American Society of Testing Materials (ASTM) and Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). Model codes are standards developed by committees with the intent to be adopted by states and local jurisdictions.
