To understand the 10S2P configuration, let’s first explain what each term means. “18650” refers to the cylindrical shape and size of the battery cell, which is approximately 18mm in diameter and 65mm in length. This format is commonly used in consumer electronics and portable devices due to its compactness and versatility.
Modular and scalable design: The 10S2P configuration allows for a modular and scalable design, which means that the battery pack can be easily expanded or replaced without affecting the overall performance. This makes it suitable for applications where flexibility and versatility are important, such as solar power systems and UPS.
To make a series connection, the negative terminal of one battery is connected to the positive terminal of the second battery. For a parallel connection, electrodes of same polarity are connected together, i.e., negative terminals are connected to the negative terminals, the same happens to the positive terminals too.
Both of these designs have strengths and weaknesses. Hence both have places where they are optimal. Parallel and then series will be the lowest cost, but least flexible. Series and then parallel gives flexibility and redundancy and hence is often found in large battery packs.
Parallel connection attains higher capacity by adding up the total ampere-hour (Ah). Some packs may consist of a combination of series and parallel connections. Laptop batteries commonly have four 3.6V Li-ion cells in series to achieve a nominal voltage 14.4V and two in parallel to boost the capacity from 2,400mAh to 4,800mAh.
A structural battery pack is designed to become a structural component of the EV. This approach can reduce the EV’s weight by removing duplicate structures between the pack and the vehicle structure, as the battery pack becomes part of the vehicle structure. This design can improve the EV’s overall performance and efficiency.
Connecting batteries in parallel – BatteryGuy Knowledge Base
There are two ways to wire batteries together, parallel and series. The illustration below show how these wiring variations can produce different voltage and amp hour outputs. In the graphics we''ve used sealed lead acid batteries but the concepts of how units are connected is true of all battery types.
