This paper proposes a multi-agent system for energy management in a microgrid for smart home applications, the microgrid comprises a photovoltaic source, battery energy storage, electrical loads, and an energy management system (EMS) based on smart agents. The microgrid can be connected to the grid or operating in island mode.
The distinct definition of agents highlights differences in the conceptualization of the system that is to be managed, i.e,. the microgrid. In O-AEMSs, the system is considered technical, whereas in M-AEMSs, it is techno-economic. This has an impact on the design and controllability of the system.
Declaration of parent agent: Seller and consumer agents declare their parent agent, after which they terminate themselves. These steps illustrate the process of energy trading and scheduling among microgrids using the MAS algorithm, enabling the optimization of energy management and the coordination of energy transactions.
The coordination of the microgrid's control using a multi-agent system depends on the agents' communication protocol. The contract net protocol (CNP) described in the FIPA specification is a widely used method of coordination in multi-agent technology. A well-defined interaction model is provided by their negotiation.
The maximum power drawn from the grid occurs between 10 h and 20 h, reaching 19.6 kW. The installed capacity of the microgrid includes 10 kW of wind energy and 10 kW of PV, totaling 20 kW. The implementation of the microgrid reduces the peak load from 20 kW to 19.6 kW, which corresponds to a 2 % decrease.
We develop a microgrid optimization model for the microgrid operation process, which includes battery regulation and user satisfaction. The established optimization model is solved using a MACPSO algorithm, and the agent communication mechanism in the microgrid is examined.
